‘When the Gods are silent, the people shout.’

Three siblings are playing in the attic of their family home, acting out the murder of their own parents.  Is this a fantasy, a rehearsal or the re-enactment of what has already taken place? In this deadly serious game of make-believe, children revolt in a world where there is no love between parents and children.

José Triana’s play won the prestigious Casa de las Américas prize in 1966 and is widely regarded as one of the most significant Latin American plays of the twentieth century. The Criminals is an exciting adaptation by Adrian Mitchell.
